A Terrible Threat Gathers in the North.

Throughout this region of the Forgotten Realms, savage marauders bring destruction. Monsters are on the prowl, preying on flocks, rampaging through croplands, and attacking homesteads and travelers. In settlements, discord and suspicion grow. Sinister strangers lurk in the shadows, whispering about how everything is soon to change. This year brought an unseasonably warm and stormy spring. Tales spread of flooding, windstorms, wildfires, and tremors.

For one reason or another you have been drawn to this area. Perhaps you are a long time resident of the town of Red Larch, and call this region your home. You may have been drawn here by the promise of glory and gold, battling monsters. A mentor or superior may have sent you because he was disturbed by the rumors floating out of the area, and wants a first hand report on what is really going on here. You might even be a disenchanted cultist who has seen the light and wishes to right the wrongs your former comrades have done in the region.

Whatever your reason for being here, you are in the town of Red Larch, a small settlement in the western side of the Dessarin Valley. Strange rumors and ominous signs have the townsfolk concerned, including reports of bandit attacks on the roads, piracy on the Dessarin River, and monster sightings too close to town. Though life continues on for these hardy townsfolks, there is an underlying aura of fear that is not usually found in frontier towns. Perhaps there is something you can do for these people.

This is an adventure for 4 to 6 characters starting at first level that should see them to 10th level and beyond.
